London Joiners Ltd. are expert cabinetmakers and restorers of fine antiques with 40 years of experience at the same location in Pound Ridge New York for 32 years. Willy Maliszewski, is widely known for his classical and modern cabinetwork and furniture making. Both of his sons, James and Harry, who follow closely in his footsteps have both worked in the shop since they were 11 years old; James is now the foreman and has mastered the very difficult Art of French Polishing. London Joiners Ltd. are also expert in traditional gold leaf work, French Polishing and Italian Polishing, ancient wax quill (reed) polishing, clock case parts, bone and pearl work, and veneer restoration. Wood and other materials are colored by traditional guild methods as well as code specifications. The shop has many hand tools, some dating from the 17th century, as well as premier modern tooling.
Will-Maliszewski is recognized expert cabinetmaker, an Ébéniste who learned his art in Europe and America. He has been invited to lecture many historical societies, among them The New Canaan Historical Society, The Ridgefield Historical Society, The Pound Ridge Historical Society, The Bedford Historical Society, The Bedford Garden Club, The Connecticut League of Historical Societies, and Caramoor. Museums, collectors, and historical societies have commissioned London Joiners Ltd. to restore and/or conserve important American and European antiques and furniture, some details of which appear in interviews on this site. Apart from his expertise in conservation, W. Maliszewski is recognized for creating accurate replications using old and rare wood, as well as for new designs using historic methods. An expert in forensic detection of antique fakery, Maliszewski’s opinions have resulted in several cases of money being returned by dealers to buyers of misrepresented “antiques”.
Westchester Magazine named London Joiners “The Best of Westchester” in 2006.
